​I had never really had any experience with horses until my sister Morgan and I received two as a Christmas gifts when I was 14 and she was 11. My mother immediately enrolled us in riding lessons with Russel McKenzie, to build up my sisters confidence and to give me the skills just to stay alive on Fancy. He didn't just help us grow with our horses, he helped us grow as people. I now would confidently put young riders and children on my well mannered mount all thanks to Russel. I have had many lessons with other instructors over the years but they were all short lived because none of them could compare to his gentle hand and kindness when dealing with my horse and I. Russel is more that a horse whisperer, or an instructor, or even just a really great guy, he is family and you'd be lucky to have the chance to ride with him.

​​One of my most memorable moments . At the New Years roping in Stettler a few years back I roped the second go with Russ and 2 other guys. Russ made me feel like I was EQUAL.......and not many do that. He let me be a part of their team and not just in the pen. I'm a really insecure person and he takes that away. I will never forget that moment when we rode in the pen and he looked me straight in the eye and said its your turn Heather and he wasn't kidding! It was an awesome feeling !
